The early childhood- early months to a couple of years in the life of your baby– has a significant impact on his mental growth and development. Ensuring that your kid gets the most wholesome early childhood can impact his life greatly as he grows old. You need to know to the smallest detail what is the best way to make your kid enjoy his early childhood while getting the best formative years in life at the same time.
Toddlers are fast learners and they can easily imitate and copy the attitudes and behaviors of people around them. As parents, you have to act natural and be yourself and ensure to give to the kid a good example that they can look up to.
A typical example would be to let your toddler know not to waste food. Let your kid see that you are keeping your left over food for later consumption and not throwing them in front of their eyes. Other normal household chores like flushing the toilet after use, recycling plastic bags and aluminum bins, or throwing rubbish into the garbage can are excellent examples of teaching the kid common tasks that he should be doing properly on a daily basis.
Setting up motivation can also be a good strategy in this learning stage for your kid. Rewards for good behavior like a hearty but honest praise are highly recommended. Give praise or encouragement at the right moments and not every time, especially if a situation warrants the opposite. Just be honest. Kids learn faster if they are told and given explanation for certain infraction. You have to do it gently though. You are not to instill fear when reprimanding but correcting the behavior. Let the kid feel that he deserves a second chance. Do not tolerate bad, repeated behaviors though. This stage is important in their habit formation so the earlier they know how to do things right, the better.
Practice open communication. This means any form of communication, not just verbal. A simple glare or a slight rise of pitch in speaking can be good signals to let the kid know to check if he is behaving properly.
Finally, do not ever tell your kid he is that stupid. While he will encounter negative things and reality as he grows up, telling him that will not only impact his self-esteem but will also tell him to do the same for others. Be positive. This should always be applied in your parenting strategy.
