Things You Should Know When Your Baby is Vomiting
It is normal for babies to spit out or vomit milk especially when they are lying down on their cribs. When we say normal, it does not mean that they have to vomit every time. In fact, babies will vomit when they are fed improperly. Such can be attributed to the parents. It might not be a sign of negligence but a symptom of ignorance. It will happen to new or first time parents.
Stated below are simple tips which parents can apply when they do not want their babies to vomit milk when and after feeding;
- When breastfeeding, a mother should entirely stuff her nipple and at least half of areola into the mouth of the baby. This is done to ensure that baby can feed on milk and not air. If there would be too much air that baby can acquire into his stomach, it would soon rise inside the stomach causing the baby to belch together with the milk. Thus, as parents, they would see their baby vomit milk.
- A mother should always change diaper before feeding up the baby. When the baby cries, it either that he is wet and uncomfortable or hungry. But of course, when the baby is wet a mother should immediately change diapers or at least a mother should make it a point to change it more often even if it is not wet to avoid rashes. Commonly, mothers will feed their babies first before changing the diapers. By doing so, baby would of course vomit due to small capacity of baby’s stomach which is pushed upon when a mother lifts his legs and buttocks. Oftentimes, it pays to use common sense especially when dealing with babies.
- Never let your baby sleep immediately after feeding him up full. When done feeding, a mother should pick him up, put his head on her shoulder, and gently pat his back to simply let the gas out of baby’s stomach. When the baby belch considerable times, that’s the time the mother should put him to sleep but not in a horizontal position to avoid milk being inhaled into trachea or cavities should he vomits. Remember when the milk enters into the trachea, the light effect on the baby will be pneumonia and the more serious will lead to respiratory tract asphyxia which will cause death.
The abovementioned tips are the natural causes why babies vomit milk. However, upon knowing that your baby is vomiting without apparent reason at all and that you are sure that you are feeding him up correctly, that’s the time you should visit your physician to ensure your baby’s health.
