Things You Should Know About Baby Colic
Baby colic also is a condition in which a healthy baby cries or even screams more often and for a long time without any clear reason. However this condition only happens during three weeks after giving birth but it disappears before the baby is three or four months old. Commonly it will happen to both in bottle-fed babies or even in breast-fed infants; baby cries during the time of feeding or during a specific period of day, sometimes it occurs during early evening or dawn.
The Causes of Baby Colic
There are some doctors who say that the cause of baby colic is because of his immature nervous system that makes them cry easily and without control. In addition, others consider that it begins in baby’s digestive system, he’s belly may look enlarged because of the buildup of gas that cannot be released inside the stomach.
Additionally, some studies suggest that babies who have colic lack Lactobacillus acidophilus or Lactobacillus reuteri. These proboitics can help render and improve the condition of the baby with colic, such as lactose intolerance, necrotizing enterocolitis and gastric inflammation. Probiotics is commonly present in mothers’ milk.
The Effect of Baby Colic on the Family
Baby colic leaves a huge stress especially to the parents or even to other family members. Some parents may think that they did not provide the necessary needs of the child, which could stop the crying. If crying may occur during nighttime hours, it can cause interruption to sleep; also, it can cause exhaustion to the parents. Leaving in an apartment, regular crying can also cause disturbance to the neighbors and even property owner.
Making the Baby Stop Crying
You can soothe the baby by giving them some thing to make them stop crying such as pacifiers and toys. You may also have them listen to some music that is not noisy. Of course, rocking the baby is the most used method. There are parents who also hold their babies to stand which may ease the pain of the baby and stop the crying; babies may cry a lot when they are left laying on their backs especially the ones with colic or lactose intolerance. Be mindful that babies with colic or lactose intolerance should not be put lying on their front because it is the most common cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS.
As parent, you should be able to comprehend the reason why you baby is crying a lot. There are times when they simply need more attention and affection from you.
