Some animal bites are noxious in human. These would include dog bites, cats, snakes and other venomous animals. If any of these animals accidentally bit your child, prompt medication should be applied in order to avoid severe infections.
Here are some steps to follow to avoid infection from any animal bites.
- First, know if the wound is major or minor. You too, should identify what kind of animal bites off your child. Doing so, will let you know if the animal that bites your baby is indeed poisonous or not.
- Wash the wound with water and soap, circumspectly (if you see that the wound was just a minor bite or scratch). An antibiotic ointment should then be applied twice a day.
- Place an adhesive bandage to wrap the bitten area of your baby’s skin.
- If the cut is stern, put on a clean fabric to the bitten area. If it is bleeding you need to apply pressure.
- If the bleeding does not impede despite the pressure you applied, call for 911 for urgent medical care.
- If the bleeding does stop, you still have to call a doctor to examine your baby’s condition. It is crucial to ensure your baby’s safety. The doctor will then prescribe appropriate antibiotics.
Rabies: Definition and Avoidance
Rabies is an infectious, deadly, viral syndrome of animals that can be passed on to humans. The rabies virus is contained in the animal’s saliva. The disease can be acquired if an infected animal has bitten you.
Because of the infirmity of a baby, rabies could even be more lethal. Thus, parents should do the best of their efforts to keep their little ones evade from such animal syndrome.
Early indications of the disease are dejection, restiveness and fever, followed by period of hyperactivity, irregular salivation and aching spasms of the muscles in the throat. Typically, victims develop an aversion to water, and unable to drink despite an irrepressible thirst. If cases like this cannot be treated in three to ten days, it will be fatal!
If you have seen this kind of behaviors in your child, better yet bring him to the nearest hospital to be diagnosed by a rabies specialist. It is better to be sure than sorry.
Rabies Avoidance
Shun from dogs that are acting weird or foaming at the mouth. Do not let the animal live your sight, but never go near them. Call the nearest Animal Control authorities to get them. Animal Control authorities can check the animal for signs of rabies. If wild animals bit your child, you must bring him to the nearest hospital or call the doctor for abrupt assistance. Do not leave your child to your pet or anyone’s pet. If your child is of privileged age, teach them not to assault pets.
