It has been a common perspective among parents to proffer their children with only the best. They would pour out the very best of their effort just to make their children exceptional than any other child. Moreover, is their thought or shall I say “desire” to see their children succeed in every endeavor they ought to accomplish in the process.
Confidence is the key to success. A person would prevail over series of tests and evidently acquire a job because he has the self-confidence. He believes in his abilities and trusts his instinct. In short, he is positive about what he believes.
How can you make your child as optimistic as such kind of person?
A three year old child successfully sang the entire song and won the singing contest because of the guts he seizes. However, not all children of the same age can do the same performance as what this child did. It simply tells us the difference. This child has the self-confidence while the others do not, or have less, perhaps. The fact that not all children have the same high spirit to accomplish things in their own, tells parents to make an effort to take them out of their shells and develop their self-confidence.
Optimistic Role Model
Parents are strong influence to children. For your child to develop trust in his self, you should serve as a role model, depicting high self confidence in a positive manner. This would not only be portrayed in deeds but also in every word you utter. Just like when you are dealing with different issues, never let your child hear nor see you give up. As much as possible, let your children see that you’re doing the best that you can, to acquire positive result. Show them the affirmative attitude in dealing with responsibilities and challenges.
Freedom of Choice
Give your child an opportunity to choose. Every child is entitled with a freedom of choice. Therefore, he deserves the right to opt for what type of clothes he wanted to wear or pick the right book he would like to read. When a child is given the chance to do something out of the ordinary, a large portion of confidence in his self would be uplifted. Nevertheless, be sure not to compromise their safety and dignity in every preference they make.
Positive Risk Taking Attitude
Encourage your child to take challenge, positively. Even if it would mean a potential failure, let your child boost his self-trust by trying out new things. To fortify a positive risk-taking attitude, you can accompany him in a bicycle escapade in some unfamiliar, yet safe places, let him join some contests or try out school plays. All these attempts would then need your full support as parent.
Problem Solving Capacity
Allow him to deal with problems and let him come up with his own resolution. Solving problems that are of course, appropriate for their age would augment your child’s self-confidence and problem solving skills. Let your child practice trusting his instincts in terms of making decisions to any given issue. Do not let him depend too much on you. They’ll soon grow up and time will come you would no longer be on his side. It is just right to make him ready for anything ahead. Let him find solution to the problem at hand. He may need your assistance but do not offer too much, to the extent that would make him too dependent on you.
Appreciate Accomplishment
Appreciate your child in every little thing he accomplished, especially all by himself. However, as much as possible keep it a practical response. This means it is not necessary to applaud your hands if your 9-year kid places napkin on his lap during dinner time. A praise should be given appropriately, if your child does things that are worthy of your commendation. This would make them much more confident and would inspire them to do even better than what you expect from them the next time.
