Keeping Fit in Pregnancy. While you are pregnant it is important to keep at a good level of fitness if you can. You may need a lot of stamina for the birth and also a lot of energy and if you are fitter and stronger then this should be easier. It is not sensible to start doing a lot more exercise once pregnant than you were doing before hand, this might mean that you strain muscles and make yourself overly tired.

However, talking a walk each day, doing some yoga and maybe some pregnancy fitness DVD’s should be plenty to keep you busy and keep you fit. If you are used to being far more active then there is no harm in doing more but be sensible. Certain activities carry risks, such as rock climbing or horse riding. If you fall, you could do enough damage to harm the baby or even lose it and so you need to think about whether it is worth doing these things or not. If you are in any doubt as to how much exercise you should be doing then talk to your doctor or midwife about it. If you tell them about your pre pregnancy fitness routine, they will let you know whether it is wise to continue with that or not.
