Keep Your Baby Safe While Sleeping

For parents, baby’s safety is crucial. Do you know that your baby may still be at risk even when he is sleeping through the night? As a matter of fact, there have been several issues of sudden deaths occurred among infants while sleeping at night. What happened then? 

The Crib Death 

Widely known as SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, nobody really knows what exactly causes it to ensue. Some people suppose of it as a sort of newborn apnea. The crib death among infant usually occurs to newborn children and some elder babies, from one month to a year old. Many parents, the new ones in particular are so frightened of hearing about this abrupt infant demise. 

Several researches were conducted to find out the main cause of SIDS but there seems to be no clear basis for the issue. However, it is manifested in these studies that SIDS victims were those babies who were positioned to sleep on their stomach. This simply gives hints to all parents to be more cautious with their little babies’ sleeping position. In fact, doctors recommend parents to let their babies sleep on their back. If in case your baby budges position, be sure to sway him over to his back once more. So far, this is the one preventive measure exposed by the experts for parents to help out their infants evade from SIDS. 

Harmless Beddings and Other Safety Measures against SIDS 

Another defensive gauge to keep your baby safe while sleeping through the night is making sure they are provided with safe beddings. This means that beddings should be appropriate for infants. It should not be too supple, should not go up nor clasp around the baby. Other safety measures are summarized as follows:

  • Avoid placing some soggy toys that may stifle the baby while sleeping
  • Pillows, lodges or baby sacks should not be too pliable to keep your baby from getting knotted by them
  • Check your baby from time to time and be sure nothing wraps his face like blankets, bag or bedding
  • Be sure to inform your caregivers about these matter if in case you would like someone to watch over your baby 

Remember that aside from the sleeping position, further studies conducted manifest that other SIDS victims were found dead in bulky, spongy beddings, with soggy toys that asphyxiates the infant. This should serve as a serious admonition to all the parents. 

However, providing your baby with safe beddings may not be enough to evade from SIDS. To ensure that your baby is harmless while sleeping at night, it requires parent to take some time watching over him. It needs a little sacrifice though, but it is nevertheless a parent’s duty to guarantee that their dear child is safe. It wouldn’t hurt if you would wake up after every two hours and check if your baby is still in safe position while sleeping. 

Babies certainly are defenseless without the existence and assistance of parents or caregivers. The verity about SIDS may not be known by some grandparents but it is crucial for all present parents to be aware of this issue, before it is too late. This way, you could guarantee your baby’s full security whether it is day or night.
