IS IT OK TO DATE A SINGLE MOM?

In this day and age, especially in the world of dating, I would like to believe that being a single mom is a non-issue. Apparently, there are men who are threatened by this. As soon as they find out that you have a kid or children you just end up as friends, text-mates, on-line buddies, etc. Anything but being romantically linked.

In my age group, there are many single moms who came from a marriage and is now legally separated, a single mom and has a boyfriend, a single mom who is in search for Mr. Right and a single mom who is enjoying her single-blessedness. So there are even sub-categories. So usually, these friends of mine who are not in a relationship as of the moment asks help to find a date and also my single male friends ask for the same favor as well. I tell my male friend that I have single friends and give him the categories I mentioned above. Upon hearing it, his face gets kind of distorted. I ask why and he says that he does not want to date a woman with an excess baggage. He says it will just complicate things. Then I tell him off and give him the sermon of his life. I explain to him that single moms are empowered women. Despite their situation they were able to weather the storm and rise above the predicament they were in before. Then my male friend agrees but later on says, if they are strong women then why do they have to date and find a partner? I answer him with a head up high, it gets lonely up there. He laughs and in the end agrees to have a date set-up with a single mom.

Men have to realize that these women are independent and so they are not clingy. They have learned to survive the toughest situation. Imagine going through pregnancy without the moral support of your partner, standing up to leave a dysfunctional marriage and raising children, rearing up kids and making a living at the same time. It’s not easy. At the end of the day most of these women just needs a companion whom they can have quiet time with and to soothe her stress away. Of course she has her kids but the love, care and attention that a romantic partner can give are different. As the old saying goes, no man is an island.

So single men or men in general should not be discriminating when their friend offers to set-up a date for them with a single mom. They should feel honored instead that they will have an opportunity to converse and experience the company of a woman who is a fortress and yet is not ashamed to admit that she longs for the company of a man.
