How to Safeguard Your Child from Lack of Self Confidence

Sometimes, for many reasons, your child can have a lack of self-confidence in his personality. As a parent, you should strive to give your child encouragement and guide him to eliminate his shyness in various ways. You can do these things to dispel lack of self-confidence in your child:

1. Support him unceasingly

When you know that your child has lack of self-confidence, what you can do to help him is to give him your unceasing support. Give him the help he needs to be free from his lack of self-confidence. Ask your child why he fears certain things and why he avoids people. Give him understanding that he is perfect and he needs not to fear anything. Your constant support should be given while he is still on his early years so that he will not come as a timid individual later.

2. Compliment his accomplishments

When your child does anything that is successfully done, you should give your compliments to him. Don’t be stingy with your compliments. Your child needs your compliments because he is in need of someone that acknowledges his accomplishments. As a parent, you should know that if the child is timid, the child might think that he is unworthy. Your compliments will bring new hope to his mind that what he does is good and worthy. Give as much compliments as you can when your child achieve anything, no matter how small.

3. Gradually face him to challenges

As a parent, you can gradually dispel your child’s lack of self-confidence by putting your child into situations that challenge his self-confidence. First, let him shake his friend’s hand, for example. You can also ask him to give something to his grandma. These small challenges will slowly and gradually build his self-confidence and make him strong in personality. As long as you are giving the challenges consistently and gradually with full attention, you will successfully dispel his lack of self-confidence.

4. Don’t let your child delves in his shyness

Whenever you see his shyness appear, you should lovingly and kindly encourage him to face what he fears. For example, when you see that your child is shy to meet new friends, encourage him to introduce himself to his new friends instead of letting him to delve in his shyness. It will be a wise decision for you to always encourage your child to develop his self-confidence.

5. Encourage your child to make friends

Many children will have healthy self-confidence if they have enough friends to play together. So, encourage your child to make friends in his school or around your home. At first, your child will look timid, but if you consistently place him around new friends, his self-confidence will arise. It is a matter of habit and what he sees every day. Although at first he will look reluctant to be around many friends, it will become comfortable for him as time goes by.

Dealing with your child’s lack of self-confidence should be done with care and utmost attention. Don’t make your child feels uncomfortable with this process. You should know the level of confidence in your child in order to raise his self-confidence. Remember to do it gradually but consistently. In the end, you will successfully free your child from lack of self-confidence.
