Helping Your Child Overcome the Bathing Anxiety

Is your child scared of taking a bath? It is time to put an end to such bath time fear. Help your child experience the real fun and excitement in his daily bathe. Here is how you do it:

Determine the foremost reason why he is frightened to take his bath.

Why did he develop this fear? Perhaps, your child has some terrible experience with his previous bathes. Did he get some soap into his eyes, gulp down some water or maybe, skid in the bath tub? Other than these possibilities, also try to ensure and perceive if he has some wounds or hives that may trigger him not to feel like bathing. This is also a must do for parents prior to bathing your baby, as a safety measure to evade further irritations and negative reactions from the water.

For you to find the best solution, be sure to identify the underlying cause of the issue. However, if in any case, your child develops this fear for no perceptible reasons, then it only manifests that he is one of those who partake the bathing anxiety. Yet, there is no need to worry much, for this is just part of growing. Therefore, it will not last long. All you need is to perform some diversions in his bath time experience.

There are various tricks utilized by many parents in helping their child surmount the bathing anxiety. Each depends on the identified causes of his fear, likewise, based on the child’s personality. The most effective trick I used with my little one is making his bath similar to playing his favorite racing game. Though, this time we just make some modification of the settings. Instead of car racing in the fields, we do it in the bath tub during his bath time. So, we make it more than just a bathing experience. Of course, he too needs his some little adjustments. In fact on the first attempt, he hesitated, but later on, he gradually diverts his mind into playing. He somehow managed to forget that he is actually taking his bath, likewise, overlook about his fears. Instead of bath time, what he has in mind is already play time.

Other parents make use of other tricks like bringing more comfort to their child by accompanying him inside the bath tub and they would set beside him. This is most effective if your child is afraid of drowning, or perchance, he ingested water or accidentally slew in the tub in his prior bathes. Other than that, just try to add more fun and enthusiasm to his daily bath.

Note: Make sure your child is not sick. One possible reason why a child is scared to bathe or feel not liking it is because he is not feeling well. Ensure that there are no signs of colds, cough, or fever. Better yet, check his body temperature.

Fear of bathing is one of the regular phases of every child’s growth and development. It usually happens to most toddlers. Though, this is just momentary and again part of growing. Nevertheless, for them to quickly overcome such bathing anxiety, parents must do something about it. Remember, your child needs your assistance for him to gradually get rid of his fears.
