Food Basics During Pregnancy

You can see that you get plenty to eat and it is all healthy food. It is economical if you wish it to be and need not be expensive. If you are eating on a budget, you can still eat sensibly without spending a fortune. What is expensive is not necessarily the best from a nutritional or flavor point of view. Cheap stewing steak is just as nutritious as fillet steak and makes a delicious casserole, while economical chicken portions or fish fillets are as health-giving as finest Scotch salmon or pheasant and can be served in tasty sauces.

You can make use of cheaper cuts of meat, economical fish and poultry. They are all good sources of protein. Don’t forget that cheese, eggs, dried beans, lentils and some vegetables, brown rice and whole-wheat pasta also contain protein and many other nutrients. They are all reasonably inexpensive and make interesting meals. Buy seasonal fruit and vegetables when they are cheap and plentiful.

If you have the time and enjoy making things yourself; you will find it is cheaper to make your own bread, live yoghurt, cakes and biscuits than to buy them. They will be more flavorsome and you can control the ingredients you use to ensure that they are of the best quality. You can also be confident in the knowledge that they are free from additives with nothing added or taken away.
