A lot of mothers in other developing countries are typically having underweight babies. This is the rationale behind the worries of many parents about their babies’ health and wellness. However, parents should worry no more about such issues because of the widespread information offering plenty of ways to help babies gain an appropriate weight at certain age.
Identifying the Main Cause of the Issue
A baby who is underweight could be the result of the parent’s incapability to take good care of their little babies, especially in giving them healthy foods to ingest. Another potential cause of this issue is an unhealthy habit of the mothers especially during pregnancy. This includes smoking, drinking alcohol, unhealthy ingestion of foods and the like. Evidence of such bad pregnancy routine are most likely to transpire after giving birth, typically would reflect on to the newborn baby.
Smoking during pregnancy would cause too much health risk for the baby. The smoke contains harmful substances per se the nicotine that could trigger the progression of asthma as the baby grows. Moreover, smoking is also one of the underlying causes of the widespread SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Poor Breastfeeding
Contrary to the reality that breastfeeding is so far the best feeding source for babies, there are still some breastfed babies who are unhealthy and underweight. The main reason for such dilemma is may be because of the mother’s unhealthy diets. What the mother eats is also the same foods the baby gets out of her breast milk. Thus, it is recommended that mothers should eat nutritious foods while breastfeeding. Doing such would offer the baby with ample supplementation for his everyday needs.
Premature Birth
Typically, premature babies are most likely to become underweight. Moreover, they look unhealthy. Premature as they are called, their bodies are still incompletely developed; therefore, a thorough extra care would be necessary. Health and nutrition of these premature babies greatly depend on the mothers. Breastfeeding plays a significant role in these cases. Mothers could then supply their baby with enough nutrients out of the breast milk they fed on them.
Genetics
In other cases, underweight babies may also be caused by genetics, meaning it is hereditary transmitted. This is quite a different and complex issue. Nevertheless, there are still other means to help these babies improve or gain weight accordingly, regardless of the fact that they inherit such feature from their parents or grand parents. Giving healthy solid foods, especially when the baby reaches 6 months would be a great help. However, solid foods should also be associated with milk, either formula or breast milk.
