Figuring out what to put inside of an Easter basket is a task easier said than done.  As your child ages, the traditional candy, chocolate rabbits, jellybeans, and eggs are no longer absolutely necessary for a wonderful surprise on Easter morning.  You can add things to help make it more memorable.

If you’re at a loss as to what you should put in your child or loved one’s basket, you’re not alone.  Some of the more popular ideas to put in Easter baskets are as follows:

CDs and DVDs—these small items last a lot longer than candy and fit in a basket easily.  Choose your child’s favorite movie or CD and place it in the basket along with some candy.

Books: Most children love reading.  Even if they don’t love to read, books are a great idea—help your child learn to appreciate good literature by providing a book that is on a subject he or she loves.  Comic books are even a good idea.

Movie tickets: If a movie is opening up your children are dying to see, this is a great alternative to loads of sugary candy.  Not only will they enjoy seeing it, but you can have some time to yourself when they’re out at the theater.

Toiletries : Deodorant, soap, shampoo, and lotion are great ideas for older children or loved ones for Easter.  These items last longer than candy, and the good smell will help remind whoever it is intended for that you care.

Money: This is always a popular gift idea.  Let your children choose what to get for Easter—you can’t go wrong this way!

Candles and Bubble Bath: Give someone the chance to relax on Easter night with a wonderful bubble bath.

Clothes: Though this option is a bit bulky, you can always put the clothes in a box and sit the basket full of some candy on top.

Socks and booties: Help keep your child or loved one warm on nippy nights by getting special socks, slippers, or booties.

Candy: You can’t go wrong using the traditional filler in the basket.  However, make sure you use it sparingly.  Consider adding at least one delicious chocolate rabbit as part of an Easter tradition.

Video Games: These fit remarkably well in baskets and help keep your children entertained while you’re busy.  Sometimes they work better than movies, so these are a good idea as well.

Jewelry: Splurge on your loved one and get them some jewelry—you can’t go wrong with something that sparkles.

Crafts and/or fabric: If you’ve got someone who loves art, this is the ideal thing to put in the basket.  Watch their creativity spark.

Disposable cameras: Let your children learn how to take pictures and capture some important memories.

Bible: This is a useful gift in order to read the story of Easter to your children.

The hardest part in preparing an Easter basket is winnowing down your choices—there is only so much room in a basket!
