Dealing with Diarrhea in Babies
Babies are most likely to accumulate diarrhea syndromes. This is because of the reality that their body is still weak. Their immune system is not yet fully developed, the reason why they can easily get sick.
Signs of Diarrhea Syndrome
Diarrhea can be caused by different factors like unusual allergic reactions to foods and even in some medical drugs. In little babies, diarrhea could usually be obtained based on what the mother has eaten, prior. When a baby suffers from diarrhea, he usually poops more often, especially right after feeding.
The baby’s waste discharge would be soft, especially if they are breastfed. However, if the baby starts eating solid foods, his waste may become a bit solid and changes every time he eats more foods.
Available Treatment
Proper and immediate treatment should be applied to babies with diarrhea to shun it from getting serious. Diarrhea if not treated would lead to dehydration, which would eventually caused other serious threats. Water can help as well as breastfeeding, for as long as you do not see any symptoms of vomiting.
However, if your baby will not take anymore breast milk or formula milk, call his doctor immediately. Some doctors may suggest some electrolyte solutions to keep him from being dehydrated. These solutions are available in all drugstores, in various baby-friendly flavors.
On the other hand, carbonated drinks like sodas, any athletic drinks (like Gatorade), undiluted fruit juices, and even sugar water should NOT be given. These drinks may trigger diarrhea to get worse.
There are foods also that are suitable for babies with diarrhea. These would include banana, rice, applesauce, and dry toast. As the baby’s condition progresses, complex carbs can be offered. This includes breads, cereals, and rice, lean meats, vegetables and fruits. These foods can help bring back the essential nutrients needed to fight against further infections. However, these foods should only be given appropriately and with doctor’s consent.
