It is always a good feeling for parents to see their baby fast asleep with a heavenly look on his face. The fact that babies are so cute and lovable is one of the reasons why there are so many people attracted to them. Everyone loves to hug, kiss or even play with babies. It is because the feeling is fantastic and that not anyone could resist not touching them. However, since they are still babies, their immune system has not been developed fully. Thus, they are prone to sickness that anyone can bring to them by simply touching or kissing. Bacterial and viral infections are most often the cause of sickness in babies. The problem is, when there is an infection inside, the first symptoms will be seen when the case is already worse. 

One of the most common viral infections which babies are prone to have is the Respiratory Syncytial Virus or simply known as RSV. The effects of this infection include the deterioration of the lower respiratory tract which will give your babies hard time to breathe over time. In the United States, this disease will start to develop during the fall and will run through spring. 

RSV is also a very contagious disease which can be transmitted through touching, shaking of hands and kissing. Sneezing can make this disease airborne too. So, if you are out with your baby, never let anyone touch him unless you are really sure that such person is not infected with any diseases just to play safe when it comes to the health of your baby. The worst thing about RSV is that it can easily cause pneumonia and croup. When these things happen, things will just become so complicated that diagnosis of RSV could be difficult since pneumonia could be the first one to be seen by the doctors hiding the underlying cause why your baby developed pneumonia. Brochiolitis or the inflammation on the airways to the lungs can also be developed because of RSV. Although, the three repercussions of RSV are the immediate effects, expect that other illnesses will develop should the main cause is not treated immediately. 

For you to be able to know if your baby has RSV, try to learn the signs and symptoms of this dreadful infection; 

• Rapid breathing – if your baby breathes heavily and rapidly, it means there is a problem with the airways or respiratory organs.
• Runny nose and common colds – although this is really common, be sure to check if runny nose and colds stays long in your baby.
• High fever – any babies who has very high fever is believed to have something really bad happening inside his body.
• Croupy cough – babies cough normally, but you must learn when the cough seems abnormal.
• Bluish lips and nails – when this happens, it means that something is wrong with oxygen distribution inside the body. Thus, respiratory problems are most likely happening inside your baby. 

Although, symptoms are really good signs on how to detect sickness and other illnesses which your baby can develop while growing, consulting your doctor is always the best option for you if you want to be sure about your baby’s health. So, be vigilant enough to know if something is happening with your baby and never ever waste your times. Your children are your most valuable treasure, protect them always.
