Avoiding Swine Flu in Babies
The world was stunned when influenza A, a.k.a swine flu (H1N1), which can only be seen in hogs, infected its first human victim. No one ever thought about it ’til the time the first victim started to infect other human beings and there was epidemic. And worse, there is no age limit who can be infected.
Babies can be infected by swine flu. Since the virus have high mortality rate, immediate medical attention is needed when the person is infected. If adults could not last 48 hours after the incubation of the virus in the body, how much more the babies?
The problem is, the symptoms of H1N1 are difficult to recognize. However, there are some indicators which one can spot. Should these signs are seen on your babies, be sure to have your baby checked so that proper and immediate medication is given before everything is too late.
Signs of H1N1 on Babies
- Just like what the name implies, flu-like symptoms can be seen first on your babies although, these signs are relative to that of many diseases. But you must take note that once the fever will reach up to or more than 100 degrees that could be swine flu’s sign. Or, if your baby has a flu but cannot be treated and instead worsen, be ware as that could also be another sign of it.
- Rashes are normal for babies; however, if it is accompanied by fever and some discoloration on the skin, then you should get medical help right away. The discoloration of the skin is caused by scarcity of oxygen. Also, should the baby stops taking in fluids and some difficulties in breathing is detected, emergency treatment should be given the soonest time possible.
- Most often than not, babies with swine flu will exhibit some bodily discomforts caused by acute body aches. You can actually know it if your babies will wiggle by the time you hold them. And due to the severe viral infection, your babies will not be able to wake up should you fail to do your part by calling for emergency right away.
Prevention is always better than cure. Thus, avoiding swine flu to affect your babies is a must and should be the first thing you should do first. But how? Avoiding the virus is really simple;
- Keep your babies clean at all times.
- Avoid being in contact with sick people.
- Cover their nose and mouth when someone is sneezing or coughing nearby.
- Stay at home most of the times.
- Be prepared at all times.
These are just simple things you can do to your babies. Now, the thing is, the health of your babies is definite in your hands. Avoid baby swine flu if possible.
