Allergy and its Effects on Babies
Allergy is an excessive sensitivity to a substance in which your body cannot respond. Once your body detects that some sort of chemical assailant penetrates, it discharges histamines and other chemicals to fight back.
Allergies in babies are easily identified by irritations. Some indications are also apparent in the baby’s body. Babies who suffer from allergy usually experience sneezing, coughing, itching and runny nose. All these happen due to the baby’s exposure to allergen. Allergen is a substance that mainly causes allergic response in the body’s immune system. These substances can be found in foods, insects, drugs and pollen.
Moreover, allergens are also known to affect the respiratory system, resulting to allergic rhinitis, skin symptoms like eczema. Babies who have an allergy are required to see a doctor to acquire the right perception. Self medication is not recommended because some allergies are extremely precarious that in worse cases, would also affect breathe.
An allergy that is commonly developed in babies is the so-called nasal allergy. It is also considered the most common kind of allergy that is acquired by most people. Nasal allergies are usually caused by the following factors:
- Dust mites – these are tiny organisms, which attacks the skin flakes of the patient. Studies revealed that eighty-five percent of allergies are caused by dust mites.
- Animal dander – this pertains to the skin and hair of dogs and cats.
- Mold – these are fungi that are usually found in wet places like bathrooms.
Are allergies transmissible?
According to relevant medical studies, there are tendencies that a baby inherits the allergy from his parents, but not the exact kind of allergy that his parents have. If only his mother has just the allergy, the child has 40 to 50 percent chance to develop an allergy. However, if both of his parents have allergies, the percentage will arrive at about 75 to 80 percent. Parents should identify the precise allergy they have for these may also be inherited by their babies. However they must also consider the possibility that their child may have a diverse allergy compared to what they have.
If the baby has an allergy, will his parents know right away?
It takes time for an allergy to develop. Researches were conducted, manifesting the fact that every human being has individual doorsill in their body. It is where the allergy passes through. If the allergy reaches the doorsill that is the time allergy occurs in a person.
On the other hand, babies are still safe from allergy in his first few months because his doorsill is still in the stage of reduced reaction. Until he gets to the stage where doorsill becomes exposed, that is when the baby experiences potential allergic reactions. This is the time when parents have to be extra careful in giving their babies certain food to eat.
