Baby brain cancer is a solid tumor cancer that mostly all the victims are babies and children aging 15 years old and below. In medical science, this is called “gliomas”.

The worst thing about gliomas is that, children may not be able to tell their parents what they really are feeling. And so, diagnoses of this disease can be done at the most advanced stage of cancer. As parents, it is a heart-breaking sight to look at when the children suffer from pain while you cannot do anything to help but pray.

The Types of Glioma

There are two types of baby brain cancers

The first is the benign baby brain tumors which can be treated because it is still in its early stages when diagnosed. However, if left untreated, this could also lead to death of the babies or children afflicted.

The second type is the malignant baby brain tumor that is caused by cancerous cells. It may have come from other parts of the body since it can relocate through bloodstream.

What is it Causes?

According to some theory that a person can get this kind of cancer if he/she is constantly exposed in chemicals like, vinyl chloride. However, mostly the cases of this cancer Is not due to the exposure of those chemicals the reason is unclear. This kind of cancer is not a high-risk compare to breast cancer and melanoma that immediately its cancer cells will spread to the side of the body.

What are its symptoms?

The most common symptoms of the brain cancer are vomiting, dizziness, nausea and headaches. Brain cancer depends only on the lobe of the brain, and other symptoms of that particular disease is depends on where part of your brain the tumor is located.  If a person has a brain tumor in his/her frontal lobe, a person can experience a personality changes and impaired judgment. In addition, if its occipital lobe it can trigger to blindness and impaired sight. Every symptom depends on where the brain tumor is located in your brain.

The Diagnosis of Baby Brain Cancer

As mentioned earlier, it can be difficult for parents as well as doctors to diagnose this kind of disease since babies and children could not exactly express what they are feeling. Thus, it can only be found out when the first symptoms emerge and are already visible. Firstly, as parents, you should be able to comprehend what your babies are crying about or what your children are telling you. Once you feel suspicious about their health, consult your doctor immediately.

The diagnosis may include neurological examinations to test the reflexes and coordination. When symptoms of baby brain cancer are seen, CT scan will be done to visualize the exact location of the tumor inside the skull. Further operations may be done to save the life of your baby.

The Treatment of Baby Brain Cancer

The treatment of this kind of disease may depend on how severe the condition is. As for the benign cancers, operations may not be needed anymore as it will be treated with medications to dissolve and eliminate the tumor inside the brain.

The scary part is when the cancer is malignant. There will be major operations to be done which include the use of lasers and other medical equipment with the hope of treating the disease. Surgery may be the only way to eliminate the cancer cells, although, there is no guarantee that it will be successful. After such surgery, medications are to be given to the patient that will include high dosage of pain reliever, antibiotics and others which will help treat the cancer.

It is not easy to look at a baby whose hair is vanishing due to baby brain cancer. Therefore, care for your baby while they are still little and do whatever you can to protect them. Never take them for granted.
