At present, teenage pregnancies are sprouting here and there. It is just a normal occurrence that at the age of 18 you have a child and sometimes even at a younger age. Is this because we are now in a modern world, wherein values have been westernized? Well, that is entirely a different subject to be discussed in another article. Going back to the topic, it is amazing how the transformation takes place, when a girl at the age of let’s say 16 gives birth and in an instant steps up to motherhood. Of course there are those who have a hard time coping with the sudden responsibility of rearing a child as she herself is still a child but most often than not it happens that a girl becomes a woman brought about by her situation.
At 16, girl usually are concerned what dress to wear to the prom, what is the next gadget they will ask from their parents, which artist is on the top charts and so on, usually about trivial things. Suddenly, she has to count how many diapers her baby consumes and to budget her money, what kind of milk is good, window shopping for educational insurance . . .etc. In other words, her life does a 360 degree turn. Partying up to the wee hours of the morning can no longer the highlight of her week instead her baby’s first smile, first chuckle and many more are things which excite her now.
It is so amazing as to how her instincts take control over her immaturity. I mean there are plenty of books available about child-rearing and the like but those are all theoretical. Their family may be there to offer assistance but the real deal is that, motherhood is based on instinct, it grows on you. No one really teaches you on how to be a mother, lest to say a good mother. Everything is like on a need to know basis. When something happens, your instincts take over and if all else turns well then that is what needs to be done if it happens again.
I admire these young girls who go through with their pregnancy. They take responsibility to what they have done and they realize that God gave them a blessing. They are true modern heroes. They symbolize the woman of today, empowered and yet still has a softness in her heart.
