A Simple Guide to Nourish a Child

Feeding time again! Most parents consider this moment, a big issue with their little ones, especially at the age of one onwards. During this stage, toddlers tend to lose their appetite, eventually refusing to eat the offered foods. Some would only eat the same single food they like for the rest of the day, while others take forever to cease their meals. Such scenarios require parents to stretch their patience to the fullest. 

A feeling of disappointment is inevitable by parents at this stage of their child’s growth and development. Nevertheless, you should not let such feeling took over your will to provide proper nourishment to your dear child. In the end, it is but your very responsibility to complete your child daily nutrition. The question is how? 

To make things easier, a simple guide is presented in this written piece for you to mull over with and to guide you in your quest in parenthood. 

  • Know the accurate quantity of food he needs. It is recommended to offer your child only with a little amount of food and allow him request for supplementary. Remember that your child has a little stomach, so consider the exact quantity suitable for his size. Toddlers for instance can only take about quarter or a half of your share. 
  • When is the right time to feed? Breakfast should be given on time, likewise with lunch and dinner. Be sure not to skip a meal for your child. No matter how little he eats on a certain meal, for as long as he has eaten his share for that mealtime. Snacks should also be integrated about halfway amidst mealtime. Avoid giving him too much sweets and unnecessary drinks such as pop, coffee, tea or fruit crystals. Juices and milk are acceptable. 
  • Introduce fresh and healthy foods. It is necessary to offer fresh and healthy foods to your child at a time. Do this when he’s in his best disposition to eat, especially when he is ravenous. You can let him smell the food or touch it at first, for him to scrutinize such offer. After he recognizes the newly presented foodstuff, cheer him to take one bite, yet never force him to do it if he doesn’t like it. If he refuses at first, there is always another time to retry. 

In cases like your child refuses to eat any food you offer, value his wish. Never show him you are frustrated. In the long run, he has no other choice but to eat. You may have to consider ten attempts to let your child admit the food you bring in. Thus, patience is indispensable. 

Bear in mind that your child’s sustenance depends much on your effort as to how much and what kind of foods you provide him. Likewise, with the apt time you offer him such nourishment.
