6 Great Ideas for Single Mom’s Escape

Whenever married moms need “time-out”, it usually means they need time alone – for shopping, a relaxing massage or facial, a cup of coffee, curling up with a good book or watching a rerun of a favorite black-and-whit movie. With kids, husband, in-laws, maids, household chores, parents’ meetings in school, marketing and grocery budgets and a full-time career (if she is a working married mom) all fighting for a piece of her, time alone becomes so much more valuable.

Single moms are totally different social phenomenon. Because they are alone so much, their need for “time-out” manifests itself as a need to be around – rather than away from – people. They like having people to talk to. They love having people around them. They love going out. They crave activity. When they get near it, they feast on noise, neon lights, music and parties. It keeps them from going crazy and thinking about how alone they are in the world.

If you are one of those single moms out there, here are 6 great ideas for your getaway:

1.    Join a gym. There are always people there, from sunrise (some gyms open as early as 7 a.m.) to sunset. You can always find someone to talk to, whether it is a fellow fitness buff or your trainer – that is, when he is not breathing down your neck for not following your exercise routine religiously.
2.    Find a sport and join a club. It is good for physical fitness and it gives an opportunity for you to build camaraderie with other club members.
3.    Take a part-time teaching job. For single moms who do not have a full-time career, this is a great excuse to be near your kid or kids (so you can watch over them). Write the school and offer to teach one subject depending on your field of expertise – say, Baking, Sewing, Typing, Word Processing, Creative Writing, etc.
4.    Get busy at church. Open a hotline to God by joining a church or a Bible Study group. Churches today are no longer just places for worship.  There are ministries to get involved in, sports activities, evangelistic concerts, and volunteer work – all waiting for you to say yes.
5.    Get on the Internet. Net-surfing, email and/or chatting are one way to keep yourself entertained and making new friends. But do remember the usual rules about divulging personal information right away. Be wary, but have fun.
6.    Learn a new skill. It can even be something a far-out as ice skating or rollerblading. Just do it.

In short, the thing here is for single moms to take advantage of the freedom they have. As a single mom, you can go wherever you want, do whatever you want with whomever you want without anyone asking questions. This is the time to enjoy!
